WHAT'S NEW
With continually increasing concern for the environment, natural fibers are
quickly gaining momentum and that is why our "renewable resources" fabric
collection is very popular. Many famous brands now support this movement in
order to protect our ecology and GTT is proud to offer a diversified collection
of «natural fabrics» which features fibers such as bamboo (anti-bacterial) ,
bamboo charcoal (antistatic, thermo-regulator), organic cotton (softness), hemp
(resistance), soya, coconut, milk, merino wool and finally recycled polyester.
GTT also proposes semi-organic mixed blends (ex:70% polyester,30% Bamboo) to
alleviate pricing and combine performance with environmental awareness.
Our knitted and woven fabrics offer similar performance to synthetic fabrics
while being very marketable as environmentally friendly products. At GTT, a
SKAL or Oeko-Tex certification is available to attest the ecological value of
fibers used in our fabric collection.
Origin of merino wool
GTT chooses the Australian wool because of its main focus, which is to obtain
the
finest possible quality of wool, as opposed to Europe where the emphasis is on
the sheep's meat. Therefore the merino wool that we purchase today from
Australia was perfected over the years by its breeders to become a superior
quality of wool. In light of this it isn't surprising to know that Australia,
with over 100 million sheep, is the largest exporter world-wide for merino wool.
Fiber's characteristics
The merino wool fiber is one of the most complex fibers studied and to this day
no synthetic fiber was able to come close to its quality standard. Merino wool
is also a very ecological product since it is 100% natural and is totally
bio-degradable while synthetic fibers are not.
The importance in the quantity of air contained in the wool fiber greatly
contributes to the insulation properties against the heat or cold, therefore
allowing for enhanced breathability of material since the protein molecules
allow the fibers to absorb humidity and release the excess heat. This way the
wool gently cools down the skin and fills an important role in neutralizing the
bacteria issued from perspiration. This allows an individual to practice a
physical activity without feeling wet or having undesirable perspiration odors
or even to be forced to wash its clothes every time they are worn. Merino wool
garments drying outdoor for a short while can be sufficient! By protecting our
body against thermal variations the merino wool becomes a "second skin" while
maintaining a comfortable stability in temperature and protecting against UV
rays.
Wool & comfort
The merino wool fiber thickness is measured in microns (1/1000 of a millimeter)
and it is evaluated that at approximately 28 microns the human body begins to
sense discomfort and an itching sensation from the wool on our skin. This is
why the merino wool fiber thickness we have chosen for our garment
manufacturing will always be between 15-25 microns as it maximizes comfort and
avoids any unwanted sensation to our body.
Care
Our garments are machine-washable (40 degrees) and must dry (flat) in an area
without excessive light.
Being the final output of a very modern technology, our
thermo-welded garments
demand a slight price increase when compared with traditional cut & sew
garment manufacturing but offer a wealth of advantages based on performance and
appearance attributes:
Main advantages of thermo-welded garments:
- Cleaner appearance with laser-cut panels & no seams
